I like 'em historical buildings in Rough & Ready, California

Population: 963

The Rough & Ready Mining Company founded the town in 1849. In 1850, Rough & Ready became the only mining town to “secede” from the union and the Territory of California, only to then quickly vote itself back in. Populated mostly by Wisconsin miners hoping to rid themselves of all outside laws and restrictions (especially prohibition), the secession was decided. It came to an abrupt halt, when preparing for a 4th of July rager, the brand new country realized it was no longer a part of the United States. It was voted back in just in time for the festivities.

(Un)official Rough & Ready Town Motel Slogan: “Our rooms are always rough and ready!”

I'm a total fan of Screamer, Alabama

Screamer is an unincorporated community in Henry County, Alabama. Located along the Chattahoochee River, steamboats used to pass through and blow their whistles while Indians would follow along on the banks screaming and hollering. Bears, panthers and wildcats similarly echoed through the hills. Screamer was accurately named after all the hollering going on.

In the 1960s, Screamer became a recreational mecca for vacationers and residents with its man-made lake and surrounding waterfront houses.

(Un)official Screamer Cheer: “AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!”
